In the world of medical research, the discovery of In Vitro Fertilization has aided couples in conceiving a healthy biological child. It is described as a technique in which a woman’s eggs are taken from her ovaries and fertilized in a laboratory with a man’s sperm. It is an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) that uses reproductive procedures to assist women in becoming pregnant.
However, most individuals still have misunderstandings about the procedure. For example, one of the most common concerns a couple has is if a test tube kid will be as healthy as a natural-born child.
IVF vs. Natural Conception
The major difference between IVF and the traditional process is that with IVF, sperm and eggs are fertilized in a laboratory under the guidance of experienced specialists. The fusion occurs in the test tube rather than in the Fallopian tube.
Couples choose IVF when one partner is unable to generate sperm or high-quality sperm, or when the female partner cannot create the requisite eggs or high-quality eggs, or when the Fallopian tubes are blocked.
Because their sexual activity results in the development of a fertilized egg, the female partner cannot conceive. Fertilization and egg fusion in the lab is, without a doubt, alternatives to sexual intercourse.
Are IVF babies as normal as others?
IVF is a different type of conception than regular sexual activity. However, in terms of mental and physical characteristics, IVF offspring are comparable to other children. However, many people wonder whether an IVF baby is as typical as other children.
A study of 10 kids delivered via IVF was undertaken in India. The IVF doctors thoroughly examined these kids. They began by evaluating their mental and medical condition and their cognitive abilities. They, therefore, concluded that these newborns were as active and strong as babies born normally.
Research has shown that the reasons causing the defects might be male or female fertility and the parents’ ages rather than the method itself. However, in spontaneous and IVF conception, it is prevalent in 1.5 to 1.8 per cent of the population. So, if a parent is suffering from any health problems, they must seek prompt medical attention for their child’s protection.
Scans during Pregnancy
The first ultrasound is usually performed four to five weeks following the embryo transfer, during the sixth or seventh week of pregnancy. However, if they assume an ectopic pregnancy outside the uterus, doctors would consider an exception and do the ultrasound early. Therefore, the ultrasound would be scheduled three and a half weeks following the embryo transfer in such instances.
The ultrasound is scheduled during the sixth week of pregnancy since it is at this point that they can reliably identify a foetal heartbeat. Experts may also establish whether the pregnancy is single or multiple and analyze other symptoms that show whether the pregnancy is progressing properly. If there are any issues, they should be capable of diagnosing them with some confidence.
The professionals will arrange more ultrasounds after this initial exam. These ultrasounds will be done in the eighth to the ninth week of pregnancy and again in the 12th week. To achieve the clearest, most precise pictures, all ultrasounds will be conducted vaginally.
Vaginal ultrasounds are perfectly safe and do not cause any damage to the baby. These ultrasounds are crucial in the fertility treatment process because they want to discover and address any potential pregnancy concerns as soon as feasible.

The success Rate of IVF
When physicians try fertilization on many eggs, IVF may be effective. Women under the age of 35 have a better chance of having a successful IVF pregnancy. Women over 40 have a somewhat lower likelihood of having a successful IVF pregnancy.
The result of an IVF operation might differ from one individual to the next. In India, the success rate of IVF operations is between 30 and 35 per cent. The following are the main variables that influence the success rate of IVF:
- Women’s Age
- Type of infertility
- History of IVF failures and miscarriages
- Procedure type
- Ovarian response

Conclusion
IVF has offered hope to several discouraged couples, allowing them to have a healthy, fruitful pregnancy. The idea that IVF infants differ from those born via normal conception is demeaning and insulting. Thanks to science and its techniques for making previously irreversible situations reversible and possible.
