Oligospermia is an infertility issue among men that results in low sperm count. The other factors related to the sexual health of men in this condition are typical. In this case, you will be able to get an erection and will also ejaculate during orgasm but the sperm count will be low. In order to fertilize the eggs you need to have a healthy sperm count.

Therefore, if you are having a sperm count of or above 15 million sperm/ml, then this is considered to be an average condition. If your sperm count is below 15 million sperm/ml that is considered as low sperm count and the condition is known as Oligospermia.

Oligospermia is categorized into 3 types:

  • Mild oligospermia – When your sperm count is around 10 to 15 million sperm/ml.
  • Moderate oligospermia – When your sperm count is around 5 to 10 million sperm/ml.
  • Severe oligospermia – This condition is severe and is determined when your sperm count falls between 0 and 5 million sperm/ml.

On the other hand, Azoospermia is a condition where sperm are absent while you’re ejaculating. It is mainly caused due to a blockage in your reproductive tract. However, if you have hormonal problems, ejaculating issues, or issues relating to testicular structure and function, then it will lead to Azoospermia.

Although, most of the causes can be treated with proper medical assistance and your fertility issues will also be cured. In certain cases, several reproductive techniques will help in retrieving your sperm. There are three types of Azoospermia:

  • Pre-testicular azoospermia – This condition is non-obstructive and is caused by the damaged production of the hormones that are responsible for creating your sperms.
  • Testicular azoospermia – This is also a non-obstructive condition that is caused due to any kind of abnormalities in the functioning of the structure of testicles.
  • Post-testicular azoospermia – This is caused by an obstruction in your reproductive tract condition that further results in issues while ejaculating.

These medications include anti-inflammatory drugs, pituitary stimulants, vitamins, and other supplements for increasing your testosterone levels.

Hormonal therapies

If you’re suffering from hormonal imbalance, then make sure you consult a urologist or a fertility specialist immediately. They will prescribe you some hormonal supplementation which will help to regain the balance in your pituitary and testicular hormones. Such hormonal supplements include Clomiphene citrate, Anastrozole also referred to as LH injections.

Surgical measures

If you’re suffering from varicocele then it may also affect your sperm count, make sure to consult your doctor for the treatment of this region. However, there are several cases of varicocele that were treated successfully.

Other reproductive techniques

It is usually seen that almost 10 to 15 percent of Oligospermia cases are caused due to genetic issues. In these genetic cases, medical and surgical treatments may not be successful in regaining or improving your sperm count.

Therefore, in this condition doctors will apply the method of sperm retrieval and assisted reproductive techniques like, in vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection. These methods will help in making your partner pregnant.

Treatments of Azoospermia

Azoospermia is a condition where sperm are absent while you’re ejaculating which mainly happens due to a blockage in your reproductive tract. There are several treatments for treating the condition of Azoospermia that include medical treatments as well as natural remedies.

Medical and Surgical treatments

To treat Azoospermia the doctor might use surgical measures by reconnecting your sperm ducts that are obstructing your sperm flow. However, there are other hormonal and medical treatments for curing Azoospermia.

In case, you’re having non-obstructive Azoospermia then you may still be able to make your partner pregnant. The doctor will use an intracytoplasmic sperm injection in this case by using a tiny needle to retrieve sperm from your testes. But this procedure will work only if there are few sperms left in the testicles.

Azoospermia and oligospermia – where can we get treatment?

At Shree IVF Clinic we use the standard classification of this condition into two broad categories – obstructive and nonobstructive for Azoospermia treatment in Mumbai. The testicles are not affected with obstructive Azoospermia because they produce sperms normally. When non-obstructive Azoospermia occurs, there is no obstruction or blockage along with the reproductive tubing, but there is a problem with the production of sperm in the testicles.
