Mapping Endometriosis: Our Advanced Techniques

• Procedure Duration: Mapping endometriosis can be time-consuming, usually taking around 35-40 minutes.

• Precision: This technique helps identify disease at various locations within the pelvis, enhancing accuracy for treatment planning.

MRI as an Alternative for Mapping Endometriosis

In clinics where expertise for specialized ultrasound isn’t available, an MRI of the pelvis and abdomen is often used.

• Expert Interpretation: The interpretation of an MRI requires significant expertise, especially to detect deep nodules of endometriosis.

• Limitations:
• MRI may miss lesions smaller than 0.7 cm.
• Unlike ultrasound, MRI is static and lacks dynamic imaging capability, making it less useful in some cases.

Unfortunately, this can discourage patients from seeking immediate corrective surgery.

Our Approach: Excisional Surgery for Endometriosis

At our centers of excellence across India, we do not perform diagnostic laparoscopy. Instead, all surgeries are excisional, where the disease is completely removed. 

• Peritoneal and Small Lesion Diagnosis: We often identify peritoneal endometriosis and small lesions during surgery in areas like the appendix, diaphragm, caecum, and small bowel.

• Complete Removal: Once the disease is identified, our focus is on excising it, as surgical removal is currently considered the mainstay treatment for endometriosis.
