I’m 28 and always thought I’d have plenty of time to think about kids, so hearing that my ovarian reserve is lower than expected really scared me. I’ve been reading so much about AMH, egg quality, IVF and egg freezing that my head is honestly spinning. I know AMH doesn’t tell the whole fertility story, but it’s still hard not to worry when you see that number. For those who had low AMH, what was your experience like? Were you able to conceive naturally or did you end up doing IUI or IVF? I’d really love to hear some positive stories too.
I remember feeling the same panic when I first saw my AMH report. It’s such a scary number to read because your mind immediately goes to worst case scenarios. I later realised AMH is only one part of the picture and doesn’t decide everything on its own. The whole fertility picture matters a lot, including age, other reports and how you respond to treatment. 🙁
I was 27 when I found out my AMH was 1.2 and I only have one ovary, so I completely understand why that number can get into your head. What helped me was remembering that AMH was only one part of the picture. I’ve seen women with low numbers still have good outcomes, and others need a bit more help than they expected. I remember how much those fertility numbers can get into your head. I went through a phase where every AMH, AFC and report felt like it was telling me something about my future, and being a medical student honestly didn't stop me from spiralling over it. I spoke about this with Dr Jay Mehta too, and one thing that really helped was looking at the whole fertility picture rather than treating AMH as a countdown. I know it's hard when you see a number that's lower than expected, but it really doesn't tell you by itself whether you'll conceive naturally or whether you'll need IVF.
28 n seeing a scary number like that must feel so overwhelming, i can only imagine. My stuff was adeno n not AMH related so i cant give u a personal experience there, but i do know numbers alone dont decide everything n so many ppl surprise themselves either way.
