What tests need to be done before starting IVF treatment?
Before my IVF, there were quite a few tests before they actually started anything. I had AMH and other hormone blood tests, thyroid, ultrasounds, infection screening and the usual fertility workup. Since I already had endo, the scans and checking my ovaries properly were a big part of it too. It was basically a pile of reports before even reaching the injections stage.
Before starting IVF, Dr. Jay Mehta advised me to do a few tests to check my overall health and fertility. These included:
Hormone tests: AMH, FSH, LH and thyroid (TSH) to check ovarian reserve and hormone levels.
Blood tests: CBC, blood sugar and tests for infections like HIV and hepatitis B and C.
Ultrasound: To check the uterus, ovaries and the antral follicle count.
Fallopian tube test: HSG, if needed, to check whether the tubes are open.
Husband’s semen analysis: To check sperm count, movement and shape.
My doctor also advised a few other tests depending on my reports and medical history. Not everyone needs the same tests before IVF.
Before starting IVF, the doctor advised both of us to do some tests. My husband had to do a semen analysis, and I had to do AMH, TSH, CBC, an ultrasound, and blood tests for infections. These tests helped the doctor check our fertility and overall health before starting treatment.
